Municipalities Blekinge has five municipalities, centered about 30 kilometers apart. Karlskrona was founded in 1680 as a base for the Swedish Navy and traces from this period are plentiful. The well-preserved naval city has become one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. Visionary investments in the TelecomCity network have created an internationally leading development environment with the focus on telecommunications. Karlshamn was originally a merchant city with lively trade both by land and sea. The city has retained its importance as a port for industry and commerce, but with the founding of the university and the strong position of the logistics companies, the scope of the city’s enterprises has widened. Ronneby was mentioned as far back as the 1200s. The historic health resort Ronneby Brunn is presently one of Europe’s largest and most modern hotel and spa facilities. Adjoining the resort is Soft Center, a development center for businesses, education and research focusing on IT, under the same roof. Sölvesborg has long traditions. The actual town center still reflects the medieval merchant city. The municipality has many vigorous small businesses. Agriculture, fishing and fur farming dominate. And the harbor is among the livelier in the region.Olofström is Blekinge’s only inland municipality. The town itself is rather new, but has grown up around an iron works founded in 1735 and that is now Blekinge’s largest industrial facility, namely Volvo Car’s plant for body components. This has brought about an environment with the focus on industrial development, both in research and education, and in production and development.Quick links to the municipalities in Blekinge:
